FREEMASONRY

THE FREEMASONRY IN SAN PEDRO

On several occasions I have been asked if the Masonic Society took action in our city, knowing that it acted and still acts in different cities the country and some neighbors like St. Nicholas.
On this subject I want to first clarify that it was included in this chapter because the purpose for which the company relies on its objectives, as a declaration of the Constitution of the Order in Chile from 1862 for example , states that "The Masonic Order is intended charity, the study of universal morality and practice of all virtues."

Statement which was amended in 1902 introducing himself as "an essentially philosophical and progressive institution, and so on." principles were modified with the passage of time until a more explicit after 1923 in which define it as "The activity of closely united men, ... working for the welfare of mankind, etc.. "Data from the book The Mystery of Freemasonry written by José María Caro, Archbishop of Santiago de Chile.
As the theme to develop is not the institution itself but on its presence or absence in San Pedro, left open the reader to extend that activity to only clarify yes, that company has had much to do with the policy developed in the country.

Their presence in San Pedro was registered in the People's Tribune newspaper on Wednesday, December 7, 1910, which echoed the meeting held on Sunday 4 this month with a meeting as they had no opportunity to witness before.
The meeting took place at 9 pm in a crowded place entirely in which "twelve children would be adopted under the banner Masonic" beginning with the ceremonial ritual and the presence of 50 members according to the Chronicle.

These were to "Rite officials coming from the Capital on behalf of the government's symbolic order, represented by Mr. James Greco, Antonio and Juan Luis Carbia Cursach and accompanied by visitors Baradero Mr. Francis Paladino and John Righini and the representative of Mr. Antonio Román Rosario.
The chair of the meeting was occupied by Mr. Salvador Gutiérrez, representative of the authorities of the lodge, who proceeded to inaugurate the new premises and the flag, being sponsor of the ceremony, Mrs. Lucy C. Vda. Maino, who read a speech that according to the Chronicle was "a real piece of oratory."
then spoke Cursach Mr. Antonio, who made a history of Freemasonry adorned with comparisons, which was widely praised as well as the little girl who recited a poem Tufilli alluding to the act.
President Gutiérrez closed the ceremony after the ceremony of adoption of children and the actions of Mr. Herman and Löbbe son, harmonium the first and second violin, to participate in a hearty welcome lunch by the Lodge "Virtue and Labour."
can be deduced that after this meeting the Lodge declined in our city because just after the first quarter of the twentieth century, there were attempts to re-establish a headquarters in the town, so arises from a news item published by the newspaper The Word of October 31, 1926 which says: "We have news of the forthcoming reshuffle the local Masonic lodge, which years ago had a consistency fairly strong association and today is just a reminder that strong union. Among the new Masonic ring, we anticipate coming soon to San Pedro a delegate from the central loggia of Buenos Aires to reorganize the local lodge and set free of adhesions.
Analyzing the writing is can see that may have been a branch of Freemasonry, which disintegrated at some point, hence the publication scheduling the reorganization of the Masonic Society in our city, but has not succeeded so far as they are not currently have their news activity, except for the presence of any institution serving as collateral.

(1) The square (symbol of righteousness) and meter (symbol of the limits within which Mason should be maintained over any other, especially in relation to other Masons) are perhaps the two best-known Masonic symbols. Here is also the letter "G" symbol of the Masons, who represents the Great Architect of the Universe.
